LVC’s history began when it incorporated on July 26, 1982. Through a relationship with Notifier, LVC quickly established itself as a reputable fire alarm company. LVC became the fire alarm provider for many of the major commercial office buildings in the Minneapolis and St Paul area. This was the foundation of growth that LVC built its book of services and trusted reputation upon.
At LVC, strategy has always been centered around a vision of technology, trends, and providing our clients the very best in products and services. All of this has built a reputation and ease of doing business with us. Over the years, we have made strategic changes focusing on providing additional products. Our goal is to fit our customer’s needs as well as keeping technology at the forefront.
As our customer needs grew, we entered the security market in the early 1990’s. We identified industry leading manufacturers and solutions, hired and trained top talent and we continue to make ongoing investments in training and certifications for our employees. Our core security offerings include intrusion detection, electronic access control, video surveillance, biometrics, analytics and Duress systems
In 2009, LVC expanded to the Arizona market. LVC had already secured a large national client in the finance sector with facilities in the area primarily focusing on security work. We also had a strategic vision to expand other services in the market. As we became established, we had growing success in the government, general contractor and retail sectors. We have tripled the size of our office and staff and offer our full line of services.
In 2011, our now President Bert Bongard joined LVC and brought a team of industry professionals to establish the information and communications technology division. Bert had a long relationship with executive management of LVC and a reputation as an industry leading professional. This division quickly grew and instantly gave LVC the ability to provide our clients a total technology systems solution. Through this division, we expanded our product offerings to structured cabling, A/V, phone systems, sound masking, paging among others.
In addition to our installation divisions, our service department accounts for a large percentage of our revenue. Early on it was driven by the inspections, monitoring, and maintenance of the systems we installed. We have since added specialty programs and services to provide more complete solutions for our clients. We offer a damper inspection program for healthcare facilities who must meet government regulations and requirements. Another is our Total Compliance Management program which streamlines the inspection programs and uncomplicates the reporting needed to meet code requirements.
In 2015, through relationships and vision, we aligned the right resources to start two new divisions.
The first was a fire sprinkler service division. We hired some of the most respected and talented industry experts. They brought instant credibility and expertise, and established this rapidly growing division which more than doubled in size in each of its first two years.
Soon after we started an industrial suppression division. Again, we hired top talent with years of experience and expertise. The Industrial / Suppression Division provides fire suppression solutions for a variety of applications and markets. Solutions include performing code consulting, project estimating, installation, and service for sprinkler and special hazard systems. This would include wet, dry, pre-action / deluge sprinkler systems as well as clean agent systems (Novec 1230, FM-200), inerting systems (nitrogen, argon, inergen), hi/low CO2 systems, and aerosol systems. Markets we serve are heavy industrial, power plants, refineries, data centers, telecom, retail, commercial, and residential.
In 2016, we completed our first major acquisition with the purchase of J.N. Johnson – a fire protection company – and LVC became a true, full-service contractor that could now provide every aspect of life safety, security, and communications to the construction and property management industries. With the purchase, we expanded our capabilities to include fire extinguisher service, kitchen hood suppression system service, mobile equipment suppression systems, and emergency light service. The acquisition included two regional offices in Northern Minnesota – Hibbing and International Falls – and a client base in the mining and milling industries. In 2017, we completed our latest acquisition of Champion Fire Protection out of North Central Minnesota to complement our already established operations.
Once again looking at opportunities, available talent and rounding out our offerings we started an in-house door hardware division this spring. This enables us to control the process and costs for our electronic card access offering while providing better overall service to our clients.
In addition to work done in Minneapolis, LVC has several National Accounts for which we provide services throughout the continental United States. Today, LVC has regional offices located in Rochester, Hibbing, International Falls, Crosby and Alexandria MN, Eau Claire, WI, and Tempe, AZ.
We have experienced incredible growth rates in recent years, earning us a regular spot on the Inc 500/5000.
